Enhancing Senior Well-being through Creative Expression – RACV Club Program

The RACV Club teamed up with Dya Australia to offer a creative well-being program for seniors. The initiative aimed to improve mental and emotional health through engaging creativity workshops Melbourne, fostering community, and promoting mindfulness. These sessions provided a supportive space for self-expression and creativity.

Program Structure

The well-being program was designed to unfold over six sessions, with each session held every two months and exploring a different artistic theme. These included:

  1. Play With Clay: Participants shaped and molded clay, tapping into their tactile creativity.
  2. Watercolour: Seniors learned the delicate art of watercolour painting, experimenting with washes and blending.
  3. Palette Knife: Using palette knives, they explored texture and bold strokes in their artwork.
  4. Sketching: This session focused on enhancing drawing skills and capturing detailed images.
  5. Metal Wire Sculpturing: Participants experimented with wire to create expressive and dynamic sculptures.

Each session encouraged self-expression and provided tailored guidance from professional artists, ensuring all participants could engage and learn at their own pace.

Challenges

To ensure inclusivity, Dya Australia tailored the activities to accommodate different physical abilities, allowing participants to engage comfortably at their own pace.

Program Impact

  1. Emotional Benefits: Participants felt more relaxed and fulfilled, with art helping relieve stress.
  2. Creative Confidence: Seniors rediscovered their creative abilities, gaining confidence and pride in their work.
